January 25, is the Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle. As I read the daily readings it got me to reflect on a quote that I came across a couple of days ago. That quote was.
…”the secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine“
In today’s reading Saul, yet to be given the new name Paul, was on his way to Damascus to bring those who were followers of the Way, followers of Jesus, back to Jerusalem. His plan was to chain them and bring them back for punishment.
While on his way he was knocked off his horse by a bright light. And a voice spoke to him asking him why he was persecuting Him who was Jesus the Nazorean.
Needless to say, after such an experience, Saul was converted to The Way and then dedicated the rest of his life to serving God. He converted many people to follow Jesus and did this until he welcomed a martyr’s death.
I got to thinking of this conversion story and how different it is from what most of us go through. Acts 22:3-16
Although this type of interaction with God did and still does happen occasionally, it isn’t very common. I certainly don’t expect it.
Most likely we have not had the experience of having been knocked off a horse. We probably have not been questioned by an audible thundering voice asking us where we are doing.
Or given a ‘follow up’ list of instructions laid out in such a simple clear way that it would propel us into a whole new way of living our future.
For us, dreams don’t just happen
For most of us, God has designed it that we have to move toward our dreams or goals in a more intentional way.
Together with the Grace He gives us, we commit our effort to a simple daily routine that will move us in the direction we want to go.
This type of collaboration with the Holy Spirit brings such joy even from the smallest of routine details. A joy from dreaming in the right direction.
For instance, if you decide that you want to obtain a degree in a particular area. You have to realize you need to go back to school and get an education in any given field. That doesn’t just happen. You have to come up with a routine that will guarantee your diploma.
Registering at the school you choose. Purchasing books. Prioritizing your schedule, class time and just when you will get your assignments done and done well.
My husband went through this for 5+ years in order to be Formed & Ordained a Deacon in the Catholic Church. The daily routine he was committed to, required the whole family to make adjustments & take part in order for it to move along in the right direction & be successful.
It reminded us that every little daily, monthly and weekly detail of this routine was necessary for the future outcome.
Deepen your faith through routine
Or when you may be deciding to take your faith to a whole new level, you have to keep the very constant routine that will lead you to that deeper spiritually.
Attending Mass or church, putting into your day dedicated time with Jesus, creating a prayerful space & atmosphere, incorporating spiritual reading, and making sure to keep a regular daily commitment to your routine are all a part of it.
Keeping your body healthy
It is also in the daily routine that you will begin to realize the secret to improve your health, diminish inflammation, weight loss or to improve your ability to just go for a walk. A simple, repeated, daily routine can ultimately bring you to your set health goal whatever that may be.
Just taking baby steps, by putting one foot in front of the other you soon will be well on your way. More water, more restful sleep, less sugar, more time between meals, only eating when hungry, and committing to a daily walk are all little things that are details of a powerful routine.
Everyday living

Keeping a clean house, keeping the kids clean, making sure laundry is done, wiping toothpaste off the mirror, maintaining a clean & well running vehicle, keeping a well groomed lawn, keeping appointments – all possible because of a simple routine.
Just combing your hair, washing your face and brushing your teeth fall under some kind of routine.
I know that without a routine I follow daily, I would not be able to keep and maintain my faith, my home, family activities, my health, weight loss or my relationships. All of these would suffer without one in place.
Your daily routine will give you, help you keep or take your dream
Routines also can also lead you in a direction opposite of the one you want to go. If you routinely miss classes, skip assignments or show up to class late you will fail. It is in your chosen routine that your failure has made itself a reality.
Constantly overeating and/or eating & drinking the wrong foods, sitting in one place, not getting enough water or sleep, neglecting your body in every way possible is not the routine that will create a future of health.
If you neglect your time talking with Our Lord and don’t make Mass, Church, and learning your faith a priority, the deeper faith you desire will never happen.
Unless maybe if you are one of the few that get ‘knocked off a horse’.
See what I mean? This simple way of approaching your life to achieve your desired dreams can make all the difference.
If you decide to follow a routine, it will take intentional planning! Plan, execute, and recruit help with that routine when needed. receive
The very routine you follow consistently, today and every day from here on will determine your joy and the life or future you receive. All determined through your little routine.
Like wiping toothpaste from your mirror.
It’s true, whether intentionally or without much thought, you do follow one. It is a good idea to take a look at it and see where it may be leading you.
Does your routine bring you deep joy because of where you are headed?
Is it leading where you want to ultimately be?
Or is it taking you where you surely don’t want to go?
I cannot even portray enough that truly – the secret of your future is in your daily routine
Always pay attention to your routine…
Love this! Get so irritated when I see people say “oh you just need Jesus, or you just need to read your Bible.” God called us to more!
Study that Bible, build your good habits and spread the love of the gospel! Don’t let life just happen to you
Yes, He did call us too more! We definitely have our part to play!
thank you for stopping by 🙂
