Just take a look at those pictures! I would never have believed the difference unless I saw it for myself! Fasting for weight loss along with keto has truly changed my life.
Who would have thought that this way of eating, called intermittent fasting, would be a lifestyle I would not only decide to truly commit to but actually embrace! Black coffee has become a welcomed friend.
To be completely honest, I never had cream and sugar in my coffee ever- I was more of a half & half and stevia girl. But, I have now come to the point of not only choosing but loving to drink black coffee most of the time (more on that later).
So, onto fasting for weight loss & health
Once I started to lose weight I realized I was losing a little, but not the amount I wanted to. And I had health issues that I needed to address along with my weight. Once I realized that health and weight loss go hand in hand everything changed. You really need to get healthy so that you can lose the weight the right way. The healthy sustainable way!
This new ‘health’ concept I really started to embrace. During the summer of 2016 I developed plantar fasciitis. Not fun! It hurt to walk anywhere. I tried ice, night braces, stretches, special compression sock and new shoes. Nothing worked. I may have gotten a little relief at times, but nothing that would last. Fasting changed everything.
After starting to add in intermittent fasting, 16 – 20 hours a day, my plantar fasciitis began to heal. Within 2-3 months my pain was completely gone. I could walk pain free again. Plus I had a ‘side effect’ of weight loss among many other health improvements. Melasma or darkened skin on my face lightened, my eyelashes have gotten longer, I have more energy and my mind is so much clearer. I think they call it mental clarity.
Physical & Spiritual Benefits
Not only has my physical health improved, but my spiritual life has changed as well. I find my time in prayer much more fruitful when I have been fasting. I can focus, pray and listen more than I ever could before. Funny, didn’t someone tell us that fasting can do that?
So starting my day with black coffee (because that doesn’t break a fast) and prayer is where my strength for each day comes from.
What Doctors Say about Fasting for weight loss
Once introduced to the Ketogenic diet, intermittent fasting just fell into my lap so to speak. Doctors like Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. Ken Berry & Dr. Eric Berg, have taught me so much! They have treated many patients for diabetes, kidney disease, and obesity.
And they all use fasting in order to help their patients heal and regain their health and confidence. Reversing diabetes and other inflammatory diseases are just the tip of the iceberg of how much intermittent fasting for weight loss goes beyond expectations.
For me keto and fasting for weight loss and health just work together perfectly. But, the awesome thing is, that you don’t have to necessarily follow a specific diet to get the benefits of intermittent fasting. If you fast for a certain amount of time everyday you can change your life and health dramatically!
Keeping Insulin low is important
It is all about the insulin in our blood. Insulin keeps our bodies in digestion and fat storage ‘mode’. Your body cannot heal, recover or lose weight when your insulin is continuously high. Fasting corrects this naturally. It brings down your insulin so that the healing can begin.
This is why eating 3 meals a day plus snacks just doesn’t make sense. Our bodies and digestive systems need time to rest, recover and heal. Once I really understood this principle, my life changed. I can now go many hours a day without the need to eat just because it is time to.
As I share with you all that I have learned and just how it all makes sense, I hope to encourage you as you look into fasting for weight loss and improved health. Who knows, I may just convince you to take that coffee black – at least until noon 😉
I cannot forget to mention that fasting is also an ancient practice for spiritual growth as well. It is really a win/win.
