Fasting = Increased Mental Clarity
Did you know that when you fast you are doing more for your mind & body than you may first be aware of?
Since beginning to live an intermittent fasting lifestyle I have gained more clarity in my thinking than I ever could have imagined I would.
Actually, when I first heard about the fasting side effect of ‘mental clarity’, I considered it a secondary effect and it really wasn’t the benefit that I was mainly interested in.
Yes, weight loss was the main reason I came to intermittent fasting. But, the healing (healed my Plantar Fasciitis & Melasma ) and mental clarity that I soon experienced was a pleasant surprise that helped me keep it up and realize there was so much more to receive from this way of life.
My ability to concentrate, think, and meditate was so impacted that I couldn’t ignore the obvious improvements in my mental processing. It was due to this clarity of mind that I gained from the intermittent fasting benefits that I began a blog, stepped out in ministry, took classes, met new friends, and became an intentional student of life.
I also have experienced a better mood, more optimism, and a mind less controlled and consumed with fear.
Benefits of Intermittent Fasting
- Weight loss
- cellular healing
- mental clarity
- reduce insulin resistance
- lowers blood pressure
- lose visceral fat (fat around liver or internal organs)
Mental Clarity Does Foster Spiritual Awareness
Fear is a tactic used by Satan to control us, dampen our mood, and stifle our awareness and capacity to see our life and soul’s potential. It really does make us a slave. And, having your brain slowed & clogged with the brain fog that comes from poor health, bad eating habits, and constant circulating of insulin in your blood, I believe can be used effectively by the enemy to keep us in this continual trap.
We get comfortable in just ‘surviving life’ without motivation or personal realization for any real purpose that will require a life of constant prayer, nurturing and attention.
Fasting Brings Deeper Prayer & Freedom
Because I have spent time fasting and being intentionally aware of my ability to say no to food at specific times, I experience a freedom that bleeds into my life in other more important areas such as my family life, mental & physical wellbeing, spiritual life and relationship with God.
Fasting has brought me and can bring you to a deeper understanding of the importance of prayer and a relationship with Jesus in our basic everyday life. I have come to a better understanding of how ‘man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God’.

Food is one very important aspect of our life, yes. But it isn’t what matters the most. And once we can bring into proper order our perception of food, we can begin to experience life with a clearer vision, a deeper mental capacity, a more refined purpose, and a healthy, full communication with God.
The mental clarity, joy, and awareness, nurtured by intentional fasting has brought my prayer life to a whole new level. Fasting from food is powerful and the benefits are for both the soul and body and are undeniable.
I made the decision four years ago, to begin my days with prayer, black coffee, and fasting until at least noon daily, all in the hopes to lose weight & improve my life.
I can truly say that this one habit has not only done that, but has brought true mental clarity, spiritual growth, & a whole new freedom.
