I know you have heard it said before – that your body is a temple. Actually, we are told in Sacred Scripture that our body is God’s temple -a temple for the Living God.
Our bodies are a gift from God himself. And we live our lives as representatives of that gift. So, what we do with our body matters.
How we dress, how we use our hands and feet to care for and to feed the hungry, help those in need, what we spend our time doing, and how we show love to others.
Even how we use our mouths and tongues to communicate to God and/or man is part of our responsibility and reflection of the reverence we give to our bodily temple.
Alongside the spiritual health, one of the biggest responsibilities we have, is how we nourish, exercise, and maintain the very health of our physical body.
It was about two and one-half years ago that I was blessed with the realization of how important it is for me to take care of my bodily health. I mean really take care of my body from the inside out.
I had for years wanted to lose weight. But, God revealed to me that my issue was so much more than just needing to lose weight.
I needed to begin to look at my body as a gift and the precise vehicle God had designed especially just for me.
God himself gifted it to me as the means to carry my very soul and self through this life and into the next.
In addition, he also designed it in such a way that it would be able to allow me to fulfill my calling in life.
19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
20 For you have been purchased at a price. Therefore, glorify God in your body.
1 Corinthians 6:19,20
If you take this scripture passage and read it over and over, and pray with it, you will soon discover and uncover the areas that you need to address.
God wants us to keep our body healthy.
We Glorify God In Our Body When We Take Care Of It
For me, I had always looked for the end result without considering the amazing journey I needed to participate in.
I desired and needed weight loss and thought when that happened – then I would be happy.
But, I had to look at the big picture and just what I really needed to do to heal my health. Not only, for now, but for the rest of my life.
I needed to find a way to take baby steps. To begin to address my health minute by minute and day by day.
In doing that, eventually, I started to move forward. Once I took some steps toward addressing my health, I began healing my body from inflammation.
I had been suffering from Plantar fascitis, and it was now finally healing.
Then I finally began to let go of the extra pounds I was carrying around. This extra weight that was so unhealthy, uncomfortable, and kept me from doing the things I wanted to do and the things I knew I was meant to do.
What To Eat
I began to make better food choices. Only choosing food closest to how God created it for us. Natural, unprocessed foods, no simple carbs, and absolutely no sugars.
Goodbye, to all that processed junk and chemicals. Getting rid of these led me down the road to a clearer mind, more energy, better sleep, and yes weight loss. I have even reduced wrinkles!
How Can We Give Glory to God When We Cannot Move In Praise & Worship?

Praise and worship is something our bodies, God’s Temple, are created for.
If we cannot move because of our own unhealthy choices, or because we just won’t, how are we Glorifying God in our body?
In this area, I figured I would have to really push myself. Workout non-stop and become some fitness fanatic in order to really see results. I was totally wrong.
By just by consistently moving and walking every day I saw amazing results. That along with my changed diet was working deep within my self.
It is just now, 2 1/2 years later, that I am beginning to add running into my exercise regimen. I am determined!
When not to eat
I then began to learn the benefits of not eating and snacking all of my waking hours. How fasting, was not only a powerful tool for prayer breakthroughs, but for helping your body to regain balance.
In fact, Going without food is necessary. It is necessary for healing your body right down to the cellular level.
Healing of the regulation of hormones that tell us when we are hungry, when we are full and when we don’t need food at all.
We all have these powerful hormones put into place by God. They were put into place when he designed our amazing bodies. Our bodies know when we need to eat and when we don’t.
But, we, through following the “standard American diet” and following the “recommended” dietary guidelines have literally paralyzed and buried our hormones in mountains of misleading & false information.
Our hormones, that God equipped our bodies with, are there for a purpose. They help us know when to, and when not to eat. They even yell ‘you are full stop eating‘! ~ God knew we needed this one.
Our bodies are simply amazing, and we need to treat them well and give them what they need to perform as they were designed to.
We need to be a good witness
In Acts 1:8 we are reminded that we are called to be witnesses of the Gospel, of Jesus.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.โ
Acts 1:8
We are asked to be witnesses of true Christian Faith. People around us look to us as a model of what Christianity is. They watch and see how we live.
It may not be talked about, but when you are living in a way that keeps your body in a healthy state, people do notice. It takes discipline, commitment, and dedication. These are all obvious attributes of Christian living.
In keeping your body healthy and showing respect for the gift God gave you, by living with healthy habits, you are being a true witness and a model of the Christian life.
Where Do We Begin?
There is good news! Our bodies are so wonderfully made. By beginning to take a few steps we can actually compel our bodies to heal themselves and to begin to function as they were created to.
You can create an environment that will heal your hormone functions. This will cause your hormones to begin to perform in exactly the healthy way God meant for them.
If you feed ‘your temple’, God’s temple, with the food it truly needs, you will be glorifying God. You will glow, you will have the energy needed each day to do your God-given tasks.
Continuing To Care For God’s Temple
Taking care of, and maintaining your temple – your body – is a life long job and it will take daily intentional effort on your part.
We must be diligent and focused on what we are wanting to accomplish and clear on the reason why.
The Almighty God has given us a body as truly God’s temple and a responsibility to go along with it.
13 Food for the stomach and the stomach for food,โ but God will do away with both the one and the other. The body, however, is not for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body;
14 God raised the Lord and will also raise us by his power.
1 Corinthians 6: 13, 14
Our bodies are for the Lord and they will be glorified. But, here and now we have a job to do and we need our bodies healthy, able and energetic enough to do it.
This temple of the Holy Spirit, our body, is a gift. And with it, like our very lives, comes a great responsiblity.
We are called to a purpose. And, it is through our bodies we will fulfill, or not fulfill, the task and life we were given. And the healthier we are, the more enjoyable and satisfying that journey will be.
