How To Begin A Keto Diet
I’m sure you have heard about the keto or ketogenic diet that is now all over social media and talk shows. This is a way of eating that I have followed for over 2 years now.
I’ve not only lost 35+ pounds and kept it off, but I have reversed and healed so many issues within my body. I feel better than I ever have and my goal is to share this lifestyle/way of eating with as many people as I can!
Is keto for everyone? I can’t say if it is or not. All I know is that you owe it to yourself to learn about the many benefits and research behind it and decide for yourself. I am here to help where I can.
But the big question is ‘how to begin a keto diet?‘. In this post, I will tell you exactly how to begin and how I learned it all for free! So, my time spent researching will definitely be an advantage to you if you are just starting or want to add to what you already know.
First, I am not a doctor and I am not pretending to be one. But, I can read, listen and learn and what I have learned is what I am going to share here. If you have any health issues you should check with your doctor before proceeding.
I will say though, that my ‘health issues’ are exactly why I started keto and I am here to say I no longer have those issues thanks to keto and intermittent fasting!
First 7 Steps To Beginning the Keto Diet
One of the experts I follow is Dr. Ken Berry. He is a family physician from Tennessee. I have learned so much from him and his wife Neisha. They even have a Facebook Live video weekly where they answer viewer questions. These sessions are live, and taped, and then available to listen to on his Facebook page.
In this video, Dr. Ken Berry goes over the first 7 steps on how to begin a keto diet.
I think he does such a good job explaining not just the basics, but the science and reasons behind the ketogenic diet- plus the many benefits that come along with following it.
He also does not believe you need any special keto supplements, pills or potions that some ‘experts’ push ~ I really appreciated that!
Plus, he has so many videos that you can watch that go over everything keto and intermittent fasting related. I also like the fact that his videos evolve with his continued research.
Just yesterday I listened to one of his videos where he states that you do not need to consume MCT oil in order to follow a ketogenic diet. A year ago that was all the rage in the Keto-sphere.
Keto Website I Used
There is a website that I utilized a lot. I will also list the few resources that really helped me to dig deeper and see major results!
It was after learning so much from these sources that my daughters encouraged me to share what I learned on a blog or something – I assume I was annoying them…
Dietdoctor.com is one of the websites I used the most. This place is full of articles, videos, interviews with top ‘keto’ experts, podcasts, and recipes! All focused on following a low carb and keto lifestyle.
You can use the site for free. There is also a paid version where you get more videos and information. But, you get your first month free! You can spend a month going through it and get some really good knowledge!
Then before your subscription is due, just cancel and you should be offered another month for free! If not, it is definitely worth the $9.99 monthly membership fee, but you can get so much information without ever having to pay. It is definitely worth checking out.
Other Experts, I Follow
Of course, I have learned so much from many different ‘Keto’ experts. One of the few I have learned from is Dr. Jason Fung. He is a nephrologist from Toronto Canada and treats his kidney and diabetic patients with keto and fasting.
He is common sense and scientific all in one. He believes that you don’t just treat a disease like diabetes or kidney disease, you treat the underlying cause. And he explains how using a keto diet can do just that!
I have watched many videos and listened to even more podcasts that were full of awesome information! He does have a Facebook page and a facebook group. I learned the most from his free Youtube videos (just search Dr. Jason Fung) and the books I bought.

It is long! But, he explains the reason for and benefits of the keto diet in this video, not necessarily how to do it. But, you leave the video feeling confident in your choice to proceed with this type of lifestyle.
This is literally how I began. But, I have given you a map of where to go and start! Follow Dr. Ken Berry, and Dr. Jason Fung on Youtube and go through the Diet Doctor website. You will find that just from these free resources you will learn all you need to know to start your keto journey today!

I can relate. I was desperate and looking for something that would work.
My advice is to follow the links in the post, read, listen and learn. You won’t learn everything in a day, a week or even a month. It is a lifestyle change. You will be moving in the direction to regain your health and weight loss will come along with it.
