Keeping Our Commitment – We Should Do What We Said We Would Do
We can literally feel so many different emotions (even in one 1/2 hour timeframe) and come up with so many excuses. And if we let those feelings become our leader then we end up not doing what we have committed to do.
The important plans we have put into place can easily go down the drain if we let ‘how we feel’ determine how we are going to run our lives.
How many times have I uttered the words “I don’t feel like it”? These feelings usually come after I experience some minor inconvenience or struggle…
Examples – the temperature being too cold/hot outside, someone’s irritated look, someone’s tone, stubbing my toe, not getting something I expected, or my coffee being too cold or not available…
I can easily take these annoyances and then use them to rationalize why I am not going to do the tasks I have said I am committed to.
- I’m not going to eat healthily today…
- I’m not going to pray today…
- I’m not going to exercise today…
- I’m not going to be very nice today…
- I’m not going to work on my business today…
- I’m not going to bed early today…
In this way of living, my inaction, or refusing to keep my important commitments, leads to even more defeated feelings. A cycle that can go on forever…
In reality, feelings are just not reliable. They can quickly turn into more ‘legitimate’ reasons why I won’t do what I ought…
Keeping Our Commitment – Not Living With Excuses
We are definitely creatures of excuses.
And this can quickly become a daily habit to hold us back from what we have committed to do.
The fact is, that God has given us the power over our feelings. And to be people of our word. Letting our ‘yes be yes and our ‘no be no’.
We don’t have to give our ‘feelings’ complete say over what we should do. God has not given us a spirit of laziness or an excuse to live by our changing feelings.
So, pay attention to those ‘feelings’ and to the excuses that follow…
The beautiful truth is that we can always make a decision to do what we said we would do – even when we don’t feel like it.
