I know I have mentioned recently that I have begun to follow a zero-carb way of eating. Why Carnivore, why choose this particular way of eating?
I have received many questions and so I thought I would explain why I am now eating this way.
After years of trying diet after diet I was left feeling defeated.
I had tried so many different ways to lose the weight I had. I was well aware that my body was a temple of the Holy Spirit, but I didn’t have the dietary or nutritional knowledge to keep this temple healthy through what or how I ate.
Having tried many different types of ‘diets’ throughout my life; I believe I completely damaged my metabolism and my body’s ability to fight disease.
I first remember a time in my early teens, my mother had introduced us to a ‘green’ drink-mix diet. You mixed it with orange juice and were to drink two or three times during the day. Expensive? Yes. Sounded promising? Yes. Did it work? No…
Shortly after I started to learn all about the new revelation that it was actually the ‘fat’ you ate that made you gain weight. “Eating fat made you fat”.
Standard American Diet Left Me Overweight
I even was taught this in nursing school. Believing in the Standard American Diet led me down a path to being overweight, unhealthy, and discouraged.
Lots of grains like oatmeal and wheat were not the cure – they were definitely the culprit…
After years of following a low-fat diet, I was very diligent in the things I did like going from 2 percent milk to skim milk. I even got to eat all the low-fat or non-fat cookies (does anyone remember ‘snack wells”?). Lowering the number of calories I ate significantly and exercising every day for way too long.
The idea was that no matter what you ate, as long as it was low-fat and low-calorie and you exercised a lot, you would lose weight. I remember eating Twizzlers and Skittles since these were fat-free treats with zero fat. Perfect to nibble on throughout the day.
Never a thought about the carbohydrates these foods were full of and how those were actually poisoning and ruining my body’s ability to lose or maintain my weight.
On top of it, this type of diet never led to any significant weight loss. Even with the addition of exercise, it was still an ongoing struggle. Weight loss was slow and would always come back. And it came back a whole lot easier than it came off!
We are taught wrong…
We are told to lower your calories and exercise a lot more – this is what will help you lose weight. Wrong! If you do lose weight, it is hard and it will come right back on. And the next time you try, it will be that much more of a struggle. Plus, it is not a healthy way to approach healing or weight loss.
To say the least this was very frustrating!
It led me to call out to God in prayer and ask for an answer to my ongoing struggle. I was not comfortable in my body and I was beginning to experience health issues. I needed an answer to prayer.
Even as a young girl, I always knew that God always answered my prayers. And I had faith that he would again.
I have shared before that it was my sisters who introduced me to the Ketogenic way of eating. I then researched, bought books, and began to live this new way. Beginning a diet that was very low-carb and increasing my consumption of healthy fat and protein led me to the weight loss and healing that I had long been searching for.

My Nutrition Lifestyle Today
Fast forward 3 1/2 years I needed a change. I was maintaining my new health, but I did begin to gain a few pounds and other deeper health issues began to come to the surface. I believe that keto had helped to slowly heal the years of damage within my inner and outer body over the previous 3 years. Now, the even deeper underlying issues I had were able to come to the surface and be easier recognized.
So, I again began to research. The doctors that I had long followed had mostly evolved a diet which was a simpler way of eating. It greatly improved their benefits, maintenance, and results. This happened to be a meat-based diet. Also known as Carnivore.
I decided I needed to do what I believed was the answer and begin to eat this way. Prayer, ordering books, listening to podcasts, and studying medical reports led me to take the leap.
It is now my third month following a zero-carb, meat based, carnivore diet.
The results have been amazing and more than I would have thought. I have lost those extra pounds, gained muscle, my skin is clearer and my daughters say I am glowing. Plus my energy is beyond what I had hoped for.
- weight loss
- clearer skin
- inner glow
- increase in energy
- clear mind
- internal healing
I’m not saying that this is the perfect way of eating for everyone. But, it is the perfect way to begin to see just what foods may have a negative effect on you.
My Continued Journey
I have found that for me vegetables are not something my body likes. After eating them, I would always experience bloating and an uncomfortable feeling.
Since this is the ultimate elimination diet, I may try and add some low-carb veggies in slowly over time. But, for now, I am completely happy not having to down a bunch of greens just to say I did.
My diet is simple. This is what I have come to realize is best for me. Fewer decisions to make helps me to stay more focused on the more important things in my life.
Why Carnivore? It Just Makes Sense For Me
Here is a great video, from one of my favorite Keto/Carnivore doctors, giving an overview of why the Carnivore Diet is so good for humans and how to easily get started.
My Plan
Not a medical professional or a dietician. I am here to share my own personal eperience and encourage you to research and learn for yourself. I will continue to share my experience and the information I learn in hopes that it may inspire and help you find a path for you.
My prayer is that by sharing personal stories, experience, and resources I find helpful and hopeful will help you. ๐
As with every aspect of life knowledge, growth and humility of knowing we don’t know everything – is the key.
Peace to you – Joy

Thank you or sharing your journey and your experiences! It’s unfortunate that so many of us can relate and that the old “calories in, calories out” philosophy of weight loss leaves so many of us feeling guilty and confused when we’re doing “all the right things” and still struggling.
Thank you for your comment!
This is why I am going to share what I have learned and experienced – I want to help others regain their health and end the constant struggle.
It definitely begins with what we eat…
Thanks for sharing your experiences and ideas for healthy living! Subscribing so I can follow along.
Of course!
Thank you for stopping by ๐
Hi Joy!! It is amazing to read your journey to a healthier life and see all the similarities with my own journey. Like you said, maybe carnivore is not the diet for everyone but I think the majority of people could benefit from cutting down grains, legumes and some vegetables that are high in toxins, at least for some time if not forever.
Yes – Absolutely!
Although misunderstood, I hope that more and more people will come to realize how our diet is so important for the healing and health of our bodies.
And I think Carnivore is the perfect place to begin.
