Have you ever had a dream that you thought was impossible and definitely out of your reach. I want to share with you the encouragement I received this morning from the Holy Spirit through scripture. The real truth is that your impossible dream, or my impossible dream, is simply not impossible for God.
You may already know that this year, I am going through the Bible In A Year Podcast. Each morning Father Mike Schmitz reads through 1 or more chapters of Scripture as I follow along in my own Bible. Right now we are journeying through the book of Joshua.
In this morning’s BIAY readings, (Joshua 10:11-13) Joshua prays for the sun and moon to stop moving and to remain in place – to stand still. Joshua was in a battle and needed God’s help. I can understand maybe asking for strength or guidance in this kind of situation. But, the sun and moon to stand still? That sounds a little over the top as far as ‘requesting help’ goes.
It definitely sounds like something we would pray for in absolute desperation – not really expecting an answer at all.
Scripture Can Reveal Our Path
As we were reading through this part of the chapter I realized that in Joshua’s situation, God miraculously made a way. Just like he did when Moses led the Israelites through the Red Sea. God made possible what they obviously thought was impossible.
I can just hear the people mumbling against Moses and God just because their situation looked dire. A body of water stood between them and their promise, their dream of freedom. A sea that would stop and abruptly put an end to the dream God had intentionally put into their heart.
But in today’s reading, Joshua asked God to halt the sun and moon with faith-filled prayer and God showed up and answered in a big way. I am inclined to think that Joshua clearly knew, was convinced, and had a deep faith, that God would answer. Otherwise, he would not have requested such a big thing. Everybody would witness the outcome and it could have been a very humbling moment for Joshua.
But, the Bible tells us that God listened to the request of this man, and answered it. That in itself is a reason for much hope.
Your Impossible Dream – God’s Message
Then in today’s daily Mass readings, an Angel of the Lord delivers a message to Mary at the Annunciation of our Lord. Conveying to her that she would conceive by the power of the Holy Spirit and give birth to God’s Son. Mary accepts, embraces, and surrenders to this announcement, this call with her Fiat – “Let it be done to me according to thy Word“.
The Angel also shares with Mary another miracle.
Her cousin Elizabeth, had conceived a son in her old age. And he follows with the statement “for nothing WILL be impossible for God.”
The Days Ahead
As I began to ponder the Mass readings this morning and how they perfectly tied in with the BIAY reading and what my heart is experiencing right now, I could clearly see this was not just a coincidence. It was a God-incidence.
Our days, like Mary and Joshua, must begin with first surrendering and having faith in Him and his dream for us. Knowing deep within our hearts that he has the power to see these awesome dreams through. He places the dreams in our hearts and it is through him that they mature and become reality.
Working Towards The Dream
I am working through the Woman’s School Masterclass right now. I am beginning to realize the dreams I have in my heart. Dreams that were placed there intentionally by God. Dreams that are much bigger than what I have become. But, now I am beginning to realize that they are definitely within the realm of possibility if I take action.
In the days ahead as I work with God and alongside a community of women to become more fully aware of these dreams and start to put a plan for my path into place – I am comforted in knowing this little promise that God gave to me, to all of us, in the readings today.
The Angel stated that “nothing will be impossible for God“. ‘Will‘ is future tense. Nothing will be impossible! Those dreams, those goals, those possibilities that you and I hold deep in our hearts are not impossible.
Hopes and dreams we have for our families, our home, our marriage, our ministry, our business, our wellness – God put them there. We just have to have faith knowing that the one who caused the sun, the moon to be still is working in us today.
All we have to do is surrender, pray, and have faith. Then watch as our sea divides and uncovers a definite path of dry land leading to those very dreams.
Remembering along the way we have a promise – that nothing will be impossible for God.
I would love to hear your thoughts!

I enjoyed this. “God-incident”, amen, nothing takes God by surprise, nor is anything impossible. Great words.
Thank you so much! 🙂
So true. Nothing is impossible for God. We should keep that in mind everyday.
